How to send a file that deletes itself

Aug 10, 2026 · 3 min read

A “self-destructing” file link is just a link with an expiry: after a set time the file is deleted and the link stops working. It’s the safest way to share something you don’t want lingering online.

The steps

  • Open the homepage and add your file.
  • Choose an expiry — 1, 3, or 5 days.
  • Optionally turn on password protection for sensitive files.
  • Upload, copy the link, and share it. It deletes itself when the timer ends.

Why server-enforced expiry matters

On Biohost, expiry is enforced on the server, not just hidden in the interface. Once a link lapses it can’t be reopened, even by someone who saved it earlier — and the file itself is removed from storage.
