How Biohost’s temporary, anonymous file hosting works.
- What is Biohost?
- Biohost is a free, temporary file host. You upload a file, get a shareable link, and the file is automatically deleted after the expiry you choose. No account is required.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Uploading and downloading do not require any sign-up.
- How long are files stored?
- You choose 1, 3, or 5 days when you upload. When the timer ends, the file is permanently deleted from storage and the link stops working.
- Can I make a file expire sooner?
- Pick the shortest expiry (1 day) at upload. Expiry is enforced on the server, so the link cannot be reopened once it lapses.
- How do passwords work?
- If you enable password protection, the file is locked and the recipient must enter the password to view or download it. Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text, and repeated wrong attempts are rate-limited.
- Is there a maximum file size?
- Yes. There is an upload size limit to keep the service fast and fair; the uploader shows the current maximum.
- Is it anonymous?
- There is no account and nothing about you is shown on the file page. For abuse prevention, limited technical metadata (like a hashed IP) is kept privately and never shown to other users.
- Can others find my file?
- No. Links use long, random identifiers, so files cannot be discovered by guessing or enumeration.
- What file types can I upload?
- Most common file types are supported. Uploaded content is always served as a download (or a safe inline preview for images, video and audio) and never executed.
- How do I report an abusive file?
- Every file page has a report link. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team, and files that violate the terms are removed.
