How to share a file anonymously (without an account)
May 11, 2026 · 4 min read
Sometimes you just need to hand someone a file without creating yet another account or tying the file to your identity. Anonymous file hosting lets you do exactly that: upload, copy the link, share it.
What "anonymous" does and does not mean
Anonymous means no sign-up and no public profile — nothing about you is shown on the file page. It does not mean the service is blind: to prevent abuse, hosts typically log limited technical metadata (like a hashed IP) that is not visible to other users. On Biohost, uploader details are never shown publicly and IP addresses are stored encrypted.
Keep the link itself private
- Share links use long, unguessable IDs, so files cannot be discovered by guessing.
- Add a password at upload time for anything sensitive — the recipient must enter it to view or download.
- Pick the shortest expiry that works so the link cannot outlive its purpose.
Steps
- Open the homepage and drop in your file.
- Choose an expiration (1, 3, or 5 days).
- Optionally turn on password protection.
- Upload, copy your link, and send it however you like.
